In October 2016 I spent a month working in the refugee settlements of the Beqaa Valley close to the Syrian border in the South East of Lebanon and an area near Srar close to the Syrian border in the North of the country.
Conditions in these parts are horrendous. Literally filled with one third of the countries population, these Syrian refugees are the poorest of the poor, able only to cross their home borders to safety.
